What kind of dog is good to get for a person living in a apartment?

Question by Shelbs: What kind of dog is good to get for a person living in a apartment?
I live in an apartment with my mom and brother and I have always want to get a dog. My mom wants me to wait until we get into a house but that probably won't happen til after I graduate. So I need some ideas of dogs I can talk to my mom about getting. I need a sweet loving dog, who loves other animals, isn't very big, and is somewhat quiet. Please help me out!
